I had a couple of hours in between some of the races that I needed to cover at the 2010 State Track and Field Championships so I decided to shoot a little project. I wandered around Jeffco Stadium shooting detail shots of various track and field events in the late afternoon light. It may not be great stuff but it kept me entertained on the first of three 12 hour days ahead of me covering track. Check it out.

This is the kind of “random detail” that becomes so important when laying out a spread that discusses the type of event this was — perhaps a photo essay on track and field as opposed to a report on a specific meet. It probably won’t be used in a news report, but it is a superb example of a photojournalist using the time available to capture more than the basic finish line shot, etc. Matt Jonas obviously wants to take photographs versus just getting a paycheck as a photographer.
Thanks for the encouraging comment Alan. Unfortunately, we probably won’t have space in the paper to run any of these.
i like this post…I love looking at any sport pictures in still form, you can feel the determination even in a single shoe…good job!!!
