The 2015 Colorado Pro Rodeo Association did not disappoint fans at the Boulder County Fair on Sunday. Here are a few of my favorites from the Rodeo.

I made the picture above during an interview the other day. No artificial lights were used. Sometimes you just can’t beat the natural light coming from a great, big, window. I usually stay away from doing the black and white conversion with my pictures but I in this case I felt like it fit the mood well. You can read the full story about U.S.M.C. Lance Cpl. Marcus Uribe in this weeks Columbine Courier.

It’s extremely rare but I do occasionally get to take some vacation. If you want to know the truth I actually had to take some vacation or it would expire at the end of the year. That is pretty much how I imagine most staff photographers do it. When most people go on vacation they start off by packing clothes. Not me. I usually start by packing cameras. After I am satisfied by the variety of equipment I have packed I move on to clothing. This year I took 3 cameras (only 3!?!): a Seagull TLR, a Leica CL and a Canon G10. I left all of my DSLRs at home. The camera that saw the most “action” was my TLR. I ran a couple of rolls of film through it while visiting the Cabrillo National Monument in California. The photos attached to this post were all shot with the TLR and then scanned. I suppose that kind of defeats the purpose of shooting film but I don’t have access to a darkroom anymore.
When it comes to photography “Denver is a mile high and an inch deep,” said one of my former college professors. He was right. Last week I checked out the Denver Art Museum’s newest photo exhibit “Exposure” and I left with more questions than experiences.

After rediscovering film a couple weeks ago, I decided I would load a roll of TMAX 100 into my Seagull Twin Lens Reflex camera and take it with me while I was on assignments. We have had some really wacky spring weather lately. I figured now was as good of a time as any to shoot a spring cloud and rock essay. I almost forgot how much fun the square format is.
